Johnson County is a county located in the U.S. state of Iowa. As of 2000, the population is 111,006. The 2007 estimate is 125,692. Its county seat is Iowa City, also home of the University of Iowa. Johnson County is one of the two counties that make up the Iowa City, Iowa Metropolitan Statistical Area. It is named for Richard Mentor Johnson, the ninth vice president of the United States.
