Clinton is a city in Clinton County, Iowa, United States. The population was 27,772 at the 2000 census and the 2006 estimate was 27,042. It is the county seat of Clinton County. Along with DeWitt, Iowa, it was named in honor of the seventh Governor of New York State, DeWitt Clinton. Clinton is the center of a small metro area, including Camanche, Iowa; Fulton, Illinois; Albany, Illinois; and the unincorporated area of East Clinton, Illinois.
